There is nothing like it! North Carolina in the mountains in October is the perfect spot to watch the colors being daubed, first here and there, until ultimately the whole bucket is emptied and every leaf covered. The cool nights give way to warm sunny afternoons as the leaves begin the graceful, floating descent to the floor. And the sound, so gentle as to be almost inaudible. The cold winds are lurking nearby but won't come until the curtain falls on the grandest show of the year.
