Yes, there are two Stone Mountains. This one
near Roaring Gap, NC and the more famous (and much more commercial) one near
Atlanta. In March of 2005, we drove to the
NC
State Park and hiked to the top. Believe me, it's not an easy climb
but the surroundings at the top, the distant views, and all that granite make it
very worthwhile. Megan spent a good deal of time waiting for her elders to
catch up!
Even in NC, this park is not well attended but it
should be. It's also a fisherman's delight.
