Grandmommie's Refrigerator Slaw
1 large cabbage, shredded
½ bell pepper, chopped
1 small jar diced pimentos
1 onion, sliced in rings ( I cut the larger rings in half or quarters.)
You will need a very large bowl to hold this – not plastic. Be sure it
will fit in your refrigerator.
Mix together and let come to a boil:
1 ½ cups sugar
1 cup white vinegar
1 tsp celery seed
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper (coarse grind)
Pour over cabbage & let stand overnight. The next day mix well and
transfer to pint or quart jars for storage.
Keeps well for a month or more in refrigerator. From the
